Spend an afternoon attending a thought-provoking session with internationally recognized presenter Dr. Peter Liljedahl, author of Building Thinking Classrooms, in Denver prior to the NCTM Annual Meeting. The seminar is on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM MDT; it will conclude in time for you to attend the NCTM opening session at 5:30 PM. This seminar is the twenty-second in the series of CPAM Leadership Seminars and is made possible by a grant from Texas Instruments. CPAM gratefully acknowledges the support of TI.
Teaching Content in Thinking Classrooms, K-12: In this workshop, we push deep into what it looks like to teach K-12 curricular content in a thinking classroom with a strong focus on how to close a thinking classroom lesson. Teachers will leave the session with a greater understanding of how existing resources can be used to design and implement thinking classroom lessons. The practices discussed will intertwine with, and make extensive references to, the recently published books, Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classrooms (K-5 and 6-12).
Dr. Peter Liljedhal is the author of the best-selling book, Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics (Grades K-12): 14 Teaching Practices for Enhancing Learning, and co-author of Mathematics Tasks for the Thinking Classrooms (K-5 and 6-12). Peter is a former high school mathematics teacher who has kept his research interest and activities close to the classroom. With a passion for fostering deep mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills, Peter has dedicated his career to reshaping classroom environments. Through his research-based innovative teaching methods, Peter continues to inspire educators worldwide to create dynamic and thought-provoking learning spaces. Peter has done presentations in at least sixteen countries and he has authored or co-authored 15 books, 45 book chapters, and 49 research articles on a wide range of topics.
CPAM is offering this powerful session in three flexible formats: join us in person in Denver (1:30–4:30 PM MDT), participate live via Zoom at the same time, or asynchronously. During the live event, Kim Rimbey (AZ 2001), official BTC team member and longtime collaborator with Peter Liljedahl, will work alongside the virtual participants in real time. As Peter leads the session in Denver, Zoom participants won’t just watch—they’ll actively engage. You’ll hear everything Peter shares and participate in thoughtfully designed, interactive online versions of the same tasks happening in the room. This is not a passive webinar. It’s a fully facilitated BTC experience, intentionally crafted for virtual learners, so you can think, collaborate, and experience the mathematics just as deeply as those attending in person.
In line with CPAM’s mission and goal to promote the professional development of mathematics teachers, the seminar will be open to a limited number of non-awardees to attend as guests of attending CPAM members. A CPAM member may bring one guest. Both the CPAM member and the guest should register on the same form.
Registration opens on May 15, 2026. If you have any questions about registration, contact Denise I. Griffiths at dgriffit@udel.edu.
