Don’t miss this opportunity to spend the afternoon prior to the opening of the NCTM Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, with your CPAM colleagues and Pam Harris, a well-known K-12 mathematics education consultant, podcaster, author, and speaker. This seminar is the nineteenth in the series of CPAM Leadership Seminars and is made possible by a grant from Texas Instruments. CPAM gratefully acknowledges the support of TI.
Check-in begins at 1:00 PM with the program starting promptly at 1:30 PM EDT. Refreshments will be provided. Registration for the seminar opens on July 1. Registrations must be received by October 15, 2023.
Developing Mathematical Reasoning K-12: In this seminar, we will discuss some of the prevalent ideas facing mathematics teachers and leaders today. Why should students (teachers) learn alternative strategies in mathematics? How are strategies different than models or algorithms? What does it mean to produce mathematics based on student strategies? How is answer-getting different than developing reasoning? Math is figure-out-able!
Dr. Pam Harris is changing the way we view and teach mathematics. She is a mom, a former high school mathematics teacher, a university lecturer, an author, and a mathematics teacher educator. Real Math is thinking mathematically, not just mimicking what a teacher does. Pam helps leaders and teachers to make the shift that supports students to learn Real Math.
